Let’s Talk Art
Tuesday, May 30th-6-8PM
Maxwell's Restuarant and Lounge
341-13th Street, Oakland 94612
Join us for this discussion on the arts community
in Oakland with Mayoral Candidate Ron Dellums.
As part of his Mayoral platform, Ron
Dellums embraces artists and wants to make Oakland
a world class center for multicultural arts. Let’s rekindle
the citywide dialogue between artists and local government.
The importance of authentic face-to-face exchange
between citizens and government cannot be overemphasized.
Oakland contains one of the highest per capita
numbers of artists in the nation. We are home to more than 5,000
professional artists, 25 professional dance companies, countless
music groups, 12 theater companies, 34 visual arts galleries, multiple
museums, historical sites and over 20 cultural festivals per year.
Oakland is ripe for a truly visionary revitalization. It will require
deep commitment and engagement on the part of every citizen. We must spark
a collaborative process between government and artists including the
possible themes of:
Opportunity-Economic Development-Leadership

I strongly suggest that PETER and everyone else that gives a damn about the arts and music in Oakland get down to this thing.
Ron Dellums will probably be our next mayor and it is time to go see what he is about.
Think of who you can forward this to and let people know. I will do the same.
Has anyone told the RPC collective and the other folk down at Ego Hearts gallery? For example. -

Tue, May 30, 2006 - 12:59 AMI sitting here alone at the cafe right now and saw Dan's post and your reply, so I'll write and leave Peter a BIG NOTE letting him know if he doesn't already about the meeting.

Sun, June 4, 2006 - 4:06 PMRandolph just posted notes here: supportoaklandartists.com/notes.html
I was there for discussions but had to bounce just as Dellums was reacting to Arnold White's painting Oakland Mosaic. Riveting to watch the watcher, etc.
