This once great oasis of absurdity is starting to go down the drain, and I blame musical fascism. The stage is small, but there should be a more constant and diverse selection of live music here. The owner’s a great guy, but his DJ skills suck. Do we really need to be blasted out of our seats by the same old Rolling Stones, Motown and Stevie Ray? The radio plays enough classic rock as it is. Talk about a stale act. Also, booking the same jazz and blues guys week after week is sure to chase the crowds away. There’s so much stuff to choose from in Oakland & SF, and this bar needs to reach out a little farther to stay on the top of the list. After all, a rolling stone gathers no moss. But a stone that’s stuck on the same soundtrack for years ain’t gonna have many (sane) regulars.

Re: Jukebox, anyone?
Tue, December 7, 2004 - 2:41 PMI wish that Peter would warm up to the idea of having DJs come in to spin at least once in a while. Sure, we don't create much of a stage presence, but the music is real. And I don't even own any Stones albums... :-)
But seriously, I'm not spinning at Frisson very much these days, so it would be great to find a new venue for spinning chill...

Re: Jukebox, anyone?
Tue, December 7, 2004 - 2:54 PMit really would be a great place for dj's to spin. as much as i love jazz, that place is just too small for the size band they put up there, unless the crowd is huge to absorb the sound. also i tend to notice that the crowd, even when large, migrates outside when the band starts up because it is just to loud.
peter plays a great selection of stuff on the cd player tho, but of course, like him, i am addicted to the vintage jazz he prefers. if he is like me, we could probably seduce him to play something off erotic lounge or similar ... as a new experience. and it would fit the ambiance better than the stones too! -

vodka
Wed, December 8, 2004 - 9:54 AMSpeaking of vodka, I was rather amused last week when I attempted to order my favorite cosmopolitan (Grey Goose and Cointreau), only to find that they were out of Grey Goose AND out of Cointreau!
